Russell Ooms has made his living as a custom woodworker and cabinetmaker for over forty years and has been handcrafting cutting boards since 1984.
The genesis of his design came from his love of using recycled materials in his craft. He saves the cutoffs from his commissioned pieces and combines them with found wood to bring a second and, sometimes, third or fourth, life and use to the original tree.
He has a saw mill and drying kiln which also allows him to process a tree from the time it is fallen until it is incorporated into his boards and benches.
Russell lives and works with Deborah Mendel in the historic Chinese Delta town of Locke, California.
His designs are showcased in San Francisco and Berkeley at The Gardener, at , Bogle Winery in Clarksburg, California and in the Sundance catalog and retail stores.
